Future of libraries-#15
In this thing #15 we were asked to share our thoughts. Mine came like this from reading all of the articles. Collection of books in libraries need to be looked at dramatically. Right now we have multiple copies of the same titles. Sometimes as many as 3-4 copies. This is redundant and not necessary. We could be the forerunners of getting out more variety of books for patrons. This said, the next articles talked about the change in modern day and futuristic libraries. This led me to conclude that: instead of a lot of libraries we will soon be seeing one or two very large libraries in a community. These large libraries will have access to a multitude of computers because books will be at a premium as more and more people will want to just sit down at a computer and find the answers there. My main concern deals with the publishing world and authors in general who may not be publishing good works. Computer information can be suspect for accuacy and so people are now learning things that are not necessarily correct. The future libraries will be full of librarians that will be glued to computer screens thus eliminating clerical jobs, shelver jobs and even maintainence jobs. More computer technicans and professional maintainence people will be the only ones employed but at a lower rate, because funding may not be possible. We are gearing up to be a social club and not a place of learning, and pleasure reading.
